Wormhole (W) Introduction – WEEX

Wormhole is a leading interoperability platform that facilitates cross-blockchain development and growth. It provides developers with liquidity and user access across more than 20 leading blockchain networks, enabling use cases spanning DeFi, NFTs, governance, and more.

On November 29, 2023, Wormhole completed a $250 million funding round at a valuation of $2.5 billion, with no lead investor. The round saw participation from Brevan Howard, Coinbase Ventures, Multicoin Capital, ParaFi, Dialectic, Borderless Capital, Arrington Capital, and Jump Trading. This marked the largest fundraising round for a cryptocurrency project in 2023. Apart from raising $250 million, the team behind Wormhole announced the establishment of a new company, Wormhole Labs, to assist in the development of new protocols.

While initially serving as an asset bridge, Wormhole has evolved into a universal AMB with support for transferring arbitrary messages among 24 nodes. Its technical solution is somewhat similar to Layerzero, with Layerzero utilizing oracles and two-party verification for relaying, whereas Wormhole employs 19 guardian nodes, necessitating robust oracles.

Recently, Wormhole initiated a large-scale airdrop, screening 397,704 wallets out of over 1 million unique wallets eligible to receive W tokens after an anti-bot verification process.

W Coin Introduction

W is the native token of Wormhole, with a total supply of 10 billion tokens and an initial circulation of 1.8 billion tokens. It will be distributed across the Ethereum, Solana, Arbitrum, Optimism, and Base networks, constituting 31% of the ecosystem.

Additionally, the foundation holds 23.3%, the community receives 17%, major contributors obtain 12%, network partners receive 11.6%, and guardian nodes receive 5%.
